For some unexplained crazy reason the name NEWT GINGRICH keeps popping up in my mind…he would say that GOVERNMENT must be reduced to as small as possible SO YOU CAN DROWN IT IN A BATHTUB…could someone reverse engineer this insane thought and get rid of the poisonous system we are all unwillingly part of…just sayin…

Military spending is government spending, remember. Practically the only kind of government spending that those on the political the right in the US see as desirable. But the more one country spends the more its adversaries will spend to ensure their security. Failure to agree arms limitations means a constant ratchet towards a higher share of GDP sacrificed to this major drag on national economies. Big expensive militaries in a constant process of technical upgrade are the reason rich societies can’t take better care of the poorest and least advantaged of their population.

A country won through war and genocidal violence against indigenous peoples is unfortunately destined to retain profound cultural attachment to military force and its equipment. Only by facing the cultural and moral debts of its own founding can a state gradually come to a less fearful/aggressive/paranoid basic stance either internationally or indeed domestically, Alas, this mindset has its viciously addictive/compulsive side and is frequently inculcated in childhood. Both boys and girls can easily be warped into this basic affinity for state violence by parents and other influential adults. Once that is done only very bitter experience can uproot it from the character. Those who having served in Vietnam became fierce critics of war and military overreach (and barbarism) are examples of such reprogramming in many cases. Those without such experience may never question the readiness for military force and its deforming influence on the culture they inhabit (eg as in the use of DoD funds to produce movies that effectively glamourise the military and glorify conflict).
